USDE’s Office of Civil Rights issues a Dear Colleague Letter on equal access for all students to educational resources On Oct. 1, the USDE issued a Dear Colleague letter reminding districts of their responsibility to provide equal access for all students to educational resources without regard to race, color, or national origin. This guidance outlines the standards set in Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. This is part of President Obama’s overall equity agenda and the push for schools and school districts to improve equity on a local level. See the Dear Colleague letter below.
Districts should take the time to review this guidance to make sure they are in compliance with federal civil rights laws when dealing with issues of equal access for students.
