Updated September 2021
Iowa Administrative Code 281.14 allows school districts and accredited nonpublic schools to voluntarily stock an Epinephrine auto-injector supply.
The process to become authorized to administer stock epinephrine includes, but is not limited to policy development, school district, or school procurement, and authorized personnel completing both the department medication administration course and training course for the recognition of anaphylaxis. Additionally, there are provisions for reporting to the Iowa Department of Education.
Epinephrine resources are located on the School Nurse Resources webpage and include the reporting form and epinephrine training resources for unlicensed authorized personnel.
