Iowa Department of Education seeks educators to develop online courses

Date: Thursday, June 10, 2021

"Iowa e-Learning Central"The Iowa Department of Education is seeking licensed Iowa educators to develop additional online courses for inclusion in Iowa e-Learning Central (ILC). ILC is being developed as a resource to provide access to courses and tools to support educators as they navigate virtual learning environments and incorporate online instruction.

This is the second round of content development for ILC, with the first call for applications coming last December. The new content development is meant to expand course offerings for grades 6 through 12. The deadline for applications in this round is June 21.

Iowa e-Learning Central is supported by federal funds dedicated for state-level education efforts available through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act’s (CARES Act) Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund and through the federal Rethink K-12 Education Grant, which supports innovative ways to educate students.

Iowa educators will create online, student-facing courses and the supporting teacher materials.

Content developer applicant qualifications

  • In order to apply as a content developer, an individual must be (or must have been) an appropriately licensed educator with expertise in the content area for which they are applying.
  • Applicants will be asked to provide evidence of their content expertise and their experience developing curricular materials, online teaching/learning, and meeting the needs of all learners.
  • A group of educators may apply as a developer. If a group of educators intends to apply together, the group must designate a lead developer. The lead developer must be an appropriately licensed Iowa educator who has expertise in the content area.
