Grants available for lead testing
Schools and child care centers are encouraged to apply for a grant that will test for lead in drinking water.
The grants, provided by the Environmental Protection Agency and awarded by the Iowa Department of Education, can be used for testing, retesting of structures if lead levels are above the federal and state limits, and additional education resources.
The priority areas of this grant funding include facilities within low-income areas, facilities with children 6 years of age or under and facilities built in 1985 or prior to the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations.
The voluntary applications are being accepted on a rolling basis while funding is available.
