Webinars scheduled for Iowa e-Learning Central

Monday, January 10, 2022

Two webinars have been scheduled to help educators and school administrators familiarize themselves with the new course download feature that was launched in Iowa e-Learning Central last month.

Educators can choose from the following dates to attend a webinar:

The webinars will cover the same content and provide an opportunity to ask Iowa Department of Education staff questions about Iowa e-Learning Central. The webinars also will be recorded and made available on the website.

Iowa e-Learning Central is an online exchange for Iowa educators, students, and families that supports their collective efforts to engage in high-quality online learning. It has three primary components:

  1. Resource Library, which provides a place for educators, families, and students to access resources and supports, developed by experts in the field, that help them be successful partners in the online learning process and provide ongoing feedback.
  2. Course Repository, which serves as a repository to access high-quality course and unit content developed by Iowa-licensed educators for use in classrooms (online or in-person).
  3. Student/Course Exchange, which facilitates sharing of online courses so schools can offer their open seats to students in other schools or find seats needed for their students. Coming soon.

The new course download feature allows district administrators to directly download course files from the Course Repository through the Iowa Education Portal. The course files are designed to be imported into the district’s Canvas or other local learning management system (LMS) that supports the standard Common Cartridge format. Instructions for downloading courses can be found on this page at Iowa e-Learning Central.

Content will expand across all grade levels and disciplines as time goes on, can be used online or in the classroom, can be adapted to meet local needs or taught as is, and is available to any public or accredited nonpublic school across the state. Using Iowa e-Learning Central is completely voluntary.
