Date:
Tuesday, October 12, 2021

To recognize the National School Lunch Program, serving approximately 300,000 Iowa children each day, schools will celebrate National School Lunch Week from October 11-15. The federally-funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) has been fueling students for success for 75 years. The fun and creative campaign theme, “WILD About School Lunch” highlights the importance of a healthy school lunch to a student’s success both in and out of the classroom.

School meals offer students a variety of options that meet federal nutrition standards and play an important role in student health, well-being and academic success. National School Lunch Week is an opportunity to promote the wonderful benefits of school meal programs and highlight the important role of school nutrition staff who are continuing to work hard through the pandemic and supply chain disruptions.

School meals are being offered free of charge to all students this school year, with USDA flexibilities, so it’s a great time to give school lunch a try.
