Funds available for some pandemic meal program expenses
There’s a new source of funding for schools working with the food-benefit card program to students who participate in the free and reduced-price meal programs.
School districts and non-public schools that participate in the National School Lunch and National School Breakfast programs can apply for grants through the Local Level Administrative Grant Awards. The grants are meant to cover additional administrative costs associated with the P-EBT cards, or the Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer.
The grant must be used for allowable expenses incurred between March 1 and Sept. 30.
Examples of allowable reimbursable costs under this grant include limited salaries of personnel, supplies, support services or other expenses associated with the fiscal year 2021 P-EBT program. These activities include but are not limited to reporting student-level or school level learning models to the state, fielding questions from the community and collecting and processing applications solely for P-EBT. Unallowable costs are those expenses that are not necessary or responsible for the administration of the P-EBT program or are already reimbursed under another federal award.
