Unlocking new possibilities

Monday, March 1, 2021

Ann LeboTeachers change the world one child at a time. And with each child, we unlock, and unleash, new possibilities into the world. While we could never find enough ways to honor our teachers for the work they do, there is one specific way you could recognize a teacher in your school — by nominating one of them as the 2022 Iowa Teacher of the Year.

This prestigious award is an opportunity to recognize an exceptional Iowa teacher who is helping redefine education. Anyone, including students, parents, school administrators, colleagues, college faculty members and associations can submit a nomination, which are due by April 1.

Every child or parent has their own teacher of the year, who may never receive an official honor or feel comfortable taking on a public service role, but nonetheless has forever made a difference in the life of that child. This award is about more than professional recognition for any individual, it’s about recognizing the profession as a whole.

As we near the one-year anniversary of when COVID-19 disrupted our learning and lives forever, let’s use this opportunity to recognize Iowa’s many deserving teachers across the state, whether by submitting an official nomination for TOY, or by tagging us on Twitter @IADeptofEd #IATOY throughout the month of March and we will share and compile these stories.

“Teaching is the greatest act of optimism.” ~ Colleen Wilcox

Let’s use these stories and our voice in a collective act of optimism for educators, Iowans and each other.

Take the time to honor a teacher today.
