One step leads to another when Iowans ‘Team Up for 10’

The saying, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step,” is literally loaded with common sense and wisdom. This month, Iowans are reminded of the opportunity to take that literal first step by walking toward a lifetime of healthful living, as the Healthiest State Initiative celebrates its tenth Annual Heathiest State Walk, “Team Up for 10”, this Wednesday.

The Annual Walk is held on the first Wednesday of October, and is an opportunity for households, schools, communities, organizations and workplaces to join thousands of other Iowans statewide in walking for 30 minutes.

This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, walking together may mean participants are in smaller, socially distanced groups, or perhaps committing to a 30-minute virtual walk at a set time of day. Whatever the design, Iowans have creative options to enjoy the physical, mental and emotional health benefits of activity and are encouraged to put on their walking shoes and go!
