Physical activity: Calling for classroom ideas!

Date:
Monday, December 17, 2018

Classroom energizers, brain boosters, or brain breaks are quick activities for the classroom that aim to engage students in physical activity while enhancing their learning experience.

The Iowa Department of Education is partnering with the Iowa Department of Public Health to update the Get Movin’ Classroom Activity Break resource.

We know Iowa schools are implementing physical activity in the classroom and we want to hear from you! Your classroom activity ideas may be included in the resource with credit to your school.

Submission guidelines:

  • The physical activity should take less than five minutes.
  • Do not feature a paid subscription or app.
  • All students and teachers depicted in video must have photo consent form on file at the school building/district level.
  • Submissions can include directions in text of how to do the physical activity or a link to a video showcasing the activity (posted online by the school to YouTube, Vimeo or other similar platform — do not send raw video files).

Example:
Jared Carder (PE Teacher at Clear Creek Amana and IAPHERD Elem PE Teacher of the Year).

Submit your favorite physical activity today! Send to carrie.scheidel@iowa.gov by Jan. 10.
