case study districts that began applying the Model in 2004.

(6 minutes)
At the beginning of the segment, Bev Showers
is briefly interviewed about the purpose of collecting and analyzing student
data. The segment continues with a school district representative describing
teachers' analysis of student data.

7 - Goal Setting (6 3/4 minutes)
The speaker is Jenny Johnson, Director of Curriculum and Assessment for Ankeny School District. She describes how groups in her district used the results of data analysis to set goals.

(3 1/2 minutes)
Bev Showers describes the elements of effective
staff development.

9 - Selecting Content (9 1/2 minutes)
Deb Hansen describes the Iowa Content Network.
Bev Showers explains the characteristics and implications of scientifically
based research upon selecting content.

10 - Ongoing Cycle (12 minutes)
Bev Showers and Deb Hansen introduce the
Ongoing Cycle component of the Iowa Professional Development Model. Then brief
segments of two collaborative team meetings illustrate how teachers discuss
data and plan lessons. Both teams are from Harding Middle School of Des Moines
Community School District. The segment concludes with additional comments
by Dr. Showers.

Schools' summative evaluation of middle and high school level struggling readers
after implementing reading comprehension strategies.
