May absences include suspensions from school?

Out-of-school suspensions are excused absences. If a student is suspended, s/he must be given a reasonable amount of time in which to make up missed coursework. Reduced credit is not a reasonable additional sanction for make up work that is completed within a reasonable amount of time. In re Hakes. Aeschliman & Petersen. 13 D.o.E. App. Dec. 332 (1996).
