What rules are there that apply to the establishment of bus routes?
In setting up routes, local boards must comply with the following rules:
- A route shall not be extended to accommodate a student whose residence is nearer another bus route.
- A route may not include a private road unless the road is maintained in the same manner as a public roadway and the students' safety will be enhanced by use of the private road.
- Boards must take advantage of all tax exemptions on fuel, equipment, and any other available economy. See Iowa Code -- 285.11 and 281 Iowa Administrative Code 43.1(2) for more applicable rules.
