What is the top age for record retention?

Medicaid requires documentation be retained for five years after the date of service for a Medicaid-eligible student. There is no specific age mentioned in the Medicaid guidelines for the maximum age of a "student." If the AEA is providing services to a student under the age of 21 and the service was performed on the day before the student's 21st birthday, the last date to retain the records for Medicaid purposes would be on the student's 26th birthday. If the last date of service for the student was on their 18th birthday, then the last date to retain the records for Medicaid purposes would be on the day after the student's 23rd birthday.
