Are there state guidelines as to how mentors will be selected in each district?

According to SF 476, a mentor must be an individual employed by a school district or an area education agency as a classroom teacher or a retired teacher who holds a valid license issued under Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 272. The individual must have a record of four years of successful teaching practice, must be employed as classroom teacher on a non- probationary basis, and must demonstrate professional commitment to both the improvement of teaching and learning, and the development of beginning teachers. After meeting these guidelines a district must then determine the process at the local level for the selection of mentors. The process of mentor selection will be determined by the local school district.
