Can mentors be trained and paid off contract?
Mentors must be employed by a district or area education agency or could be retired teachers who hold a valid license under Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 272. Any individual selected as a mentor must have a record of four years of successful teaching practice. Training could take place during the summer or other times when the mentor is off contract. The method of payment to a mentor is a local decision.
