What if a school is notified by the Iowa Department of Education that it meets the definition of persistently dangerous?
The school must take all of the following steps:
- Develop a corrective action plan. to be approved by the Iowa Department of Education.
- Submit to monitoring by the Department to make sure that the school completes its action plan in a timely manner.
- Notify, within 14 days of the designation, parents of each student attending the school that the school has been designated as "persistently dangerous," and offer those students the opportunity to transfer to another attendance center within the district. A district may, however, deny the transfer if space at the requested attendance center is unavailable.
