What are the requirements for an approved driver's education program?
A state-approved driver's education program is described in 281--IAC 26.2. An approved program will have properly licensed teachers. Students will have instruction permits and will complete 30 hours of classroom instruction which must include four hours of substance abuse education, a minimum of 20 minutes on railroad crossing and information on organ donation. Students must complete six hours of laboratory time and three hours of that must be behind the wheel driving while the remainder could be driving or could be with simulators at a ratio of four hours simulator time to replace one hour of behind-the-wheel driving time.
