The purpose of state accreditation of Iowa's community colleges is to provide accountability to the people of Iowa and to increase effectiveness at the institutional level. State accreditation of Iowa community colleges was initiated by legislative act in 1990 (see Iowa Code 260C.47) and has undergone minor revisions since then. A major reformulation of Iowa's state commentary college accreditation process will be completed in 2006 and is expected to go into effect on January 1, 2007.
