The Iowa State Patrol has alerted the DE that not all school districts are in compliance with the law that requires all publicly owned motor vehicles to bear at least two labels in a conspicuous place, one on each side of the vehicle covering at least one square foot (144 square inches) of surface. There is NO exception for school districts such as exists for unmarked law enforcement vehicles. Any district vehicle with non-regular plates must have the two signs. Violations are serious misdemeanors, subject to a fine of at least $315 and not to exceed $1875 (exclusive of surcharge and court costs). In addition, the court may also order imprisonment not to exceed one year.
