Mission

The mission of Iowa's Adult Literacy Statewide Program is to provide accessible, quality instruction that develops life, work and literacy skills.

Iowa's adult literacy program serves the literacy needs of the state's adult target populations through the state's fifteen community colleges. Iowa's Adult Basic Education, English Literacy & ELL, Family Literacy, and GED program areas help adults acquire basic educational skills.

The following sections address the adult literacy program for the state of Iowa. They are updated periodically.

GED Notice

Welcome to the GED® Testing family.

For more than sixty years, the GED® tests have offered personal satisfaction and broadened professional, occupational and educational opportunities for millions of adults who, for many reasons, were unable to complete their formal high school studies.  Thank you for joining us in this important work. I know you will find it as rewarding as I have.

Since the proper administration, supervision and integrity of GED® Testing are the joint responsibilities of you, the GED® jurisdiction office and the GED® Testing Service, you must be thoroughly familiar with all policies and procedures. Please read the GEDTS® Policies and Procedures Manual, Iowa’s GED® Guidelines and all other relevant publications that you will find on this website. The GED® Administrator is the jurisdiction’s authority regarding GED® testing, and also your primary resource should you have questions.  If you cannot locate a copy of the current manual, please contact the GED® Administrator for Iowa, Alex Harris.

Thank you for providing GED® testing for your community and, once again, welcome.

Sincerely yours,

Alex Harris
