Des Moines school among the nation’s first-ever Green Ribbon Schools

Central Campus in Des Moines is among the first U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and other federal officials announced April 23.

Seventy-eight schools in 29 states and Washington D.C. received the first-ever award, which honors schools that demonstrate a comprehensive approach to creating "green" environments.

 

Iowa Teacher and Principal Leadership Symposium details are announced

The governor’s office today announced more details of Friday’s Iowa Teacher and Principal Leadership Symposium.
The sold-out symposium will be live streamed by JDL Horizons. JDL Horizons, using its flagship Internet streaming solution EduVision, will produce and stream the Iowa Teacher and Principal Leadership Symposium events in cooperation with the governor’s office and the Iowa Department of Education. eSchool Media will accept the stream and deliver the roundtable events to a national audience of nearly 1 million K-12 educators throughout North America and around the world. Advisory: State Board of Education meets Tuesday, July 31

The Iowa State Board of Education’s next regular business meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 31, in the 2nd floor State Board Room of the Grimes State Office Building, 400 E. 14th St., in Des Moines. The business meeting starts at 10 a.m.

 

Secretary Duncan releases CTE blueprint in Iowa

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan on April 19 praised Iowa’s leadership in career and technical education and used the state as his stage to release a CTE blueprint for the nation.

 

Iowa Department of Education consultant receives prestigious honor

The Iowa Department of Education's Jan Kuhl is believed to be the first-ever Iowan to receive a national honor by the American School counselor Association (ASCA).

Jan, the school counseling and careers consultant for the department, has been named the National 2012 Director/Coordinator of the Year by ASCA. She was nominated by people she works with in the field.
