Advisory: State Board of Education meets Thursday, Sept. 13

The Iowa State Board of Education’s next regular meeting will take place on Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Grimes State Office Building, 400 E. 14th St., in Des Moines. A work session begins at 9 a.m., followed by the business meeting at 10:30 a.m.

It’s that time of year again when yellow buses are winding their way through Iowa’s cities, towns and rural areas. It’s also that time of year for Iowa’s drivers to be extra cautious in watching students heading to and from the buses.

Iowa Department of Education Director Jason Glass today announced a meeting of the Task Force on Early Childhood Assessment on Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The meeting will take place at the West Des Moines Learning Resource Center, 3550 George Mills Civic Parkway, in West Des Moines.

The Iowa Department of Education will request a waiver for the approval of an amendment to Iowa’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 School Improvement Grants Application to extend the waiver previously granted under section 421(b) of the General Education Provisions Act (GEPA), 20 U.S.C. § 1225(b), to extend the period of availability of the fiscal year (FY) 2009 School Improvement Grant (SIG) funds awarded under Section 1003(g) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), as amended, until September 30, 2014.
