The number of Iowa public high school students who are getting a taste of college-level studies through participation in Advanced Placement courses continues to climb, according to a report released today by the College Board.

Iowa Department of Education Director Jason Glass today announced a meeting of the Task Force on Teacher Leadership and Compensation on Friday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The meeting will take place in Room B100 (basement level) in the Grimes State Office Building.

 

Director Glass announces Teaching Standards and Teacher Evaluation Task Force

Iowa Department of Education Director Jason Glass today announced the 20 Iowans who will serve on the Teaching Standards and Teacher Evaluation Task Force, which was established as part of Senate File 2284. This task force will recommend ways to improve the Iowa teaching standards and teacher evaluations. Recommendations are due to the Legislature by Nov. 15.

Members of the state Task Force on Teacher Leadership and Compensation released their final recommendations, which set a new vision for the teaching profession in Iowa, set the stage for great teaching for Iowa students, and provide more support and career opportunities than ever before.  

iconThe report is the culmination of seven months of consensus-based work by the task force, made up of 25 education stakeholders representing K-12 education, the business community, and higher education.

The Iowa Department of Education will request a waiver for the approval of an amendment to Iowa’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2009 School Improvement Grants Application to extend the waiver previously granted under section 421(b) of the General Education Provisions Act (GEPA), 20 U.S.C. § 1225(b), to extend the period of availability of the fiscal year (FY) 2009 School Improvement Grant (SIG) funds awarded under Section 1003(g) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), as amended, until September 30, 2014.
