Projections Show Public School Enrollment May End 13-Year Decline

After thirteen years of declining enrollment, the number of students attending public schools in Iowa is expected to see some modest gains over the next five years, according to projections released by the Iowa Department of Education. The projections are used to forecast district changes in enrollment as well as funding for public schools.

U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan will be the keynote speaker at Gov. Terry Branstad’s Iowa Education Summit to be held Monday, July 25, and Tuesday, July 26, in Des Moines.

The Iowa Department of Education has prepared an amended High Cost Pool Plan for implementation in the 2013-2014 school year. This plan describes how funding set aside under the provisions of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Part B may be accessed by local education agencies (LEA).
